After seeing Steve Schreiber's (webmaster for www.volgagermans.net) photographs of Walter, Russia, the thoughts of loneliness around this Russian prairie church resonated. I lifted elements of Schreiber's photographs and used them freely in the painting. Simple images of those who have passed on are symbolized in the clouds.
