The Gates of Pfeifer, Russia
From the Collection of Sheri Rose, Hoyt, Kansas
Pfeifer, Russia was founded in 1765 by emigrants from Baden, Wuerttemburg and other provinces in Germany. It is located a few miles southwest of Kamenka.
The Church of St. Francis of Assisi was built of wood and had a rather ornate altar and a pipe organ from South Tyrol.
The gates at Pfeifer had a unique blend of Volga-German and Eastern style making for a fascinating painting.
